ROLE: To utilize effective teamwork in performing all tasks necessary for packaging the newspaper products produced for distribution by the Sun-Sentinel while consistently meeting or exceeding established standards for quality, reliability and customer service.


  • To work as part of a team feeding we-print and pre-print materials into the insert machines and stacking insert bundles onto pallets in an efficient manner which allows production to adhere to established deadlines while maintaining product quality.
  • To work as a part of a team transferring newspaper bundles from the conveyors to pallets as they are being printed and to identify and store pallets in properly assigned locations.
  • To operate all newspaper packaging equipment including: stackers, tying machines, bundle wrappers, stretch wrappers, Forklift trucks, pallet jacks and perform routine repairs as needed.
  • Set-up and Operate Labeling equipment and Palletizer
  • Prepare, distribute and administer Load Flags, insure proper quantities are loaded on trucks fulfilling orders as appropriate.
  • Perform Backline quality checks as required.
  • To report to the Packaging supervisors all matters that may negatively affect employee safety, product quality, product deadlines and equipment maintenance.
  • To work as part of a team maintaining the highest possible level of cleanliness on the Packaging equipment and production floor by routinely performing housekeeping duties on every shift.
  • Fill in for Technicians and Lead Packagers during absence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Manager


  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • 5 years experience in a print packaging experience.
  • Must be skilled in the operation of newspaper packaging equipment including inserters, stackers, strappers and wrappers.
  • Must be certified in the operation of Industrial forklift trucks and Pallet jacks.
  • The ability to distinguish audible sounds and visual signals in order to walk about safely in close proximity to heavy industrial equipment is requires.
  • Working environment requires exposure to high noise levels and paper dust.
  • Must be able to stand continuously, walk and bend frequently and lift up to 50 pounds.
